Deck Framing Layout. Here's what you need to know. There are two main ways to lay out.
The location of the ledger board, diagonal bracing, posts and footings, and the type, size and spacing of the ledger board fasteners.
Your joists will run perpendicular to your boards, so design your frame accordingly. (i prefer to double the outside joists, as do some deck builders, which adds 2 joists, for a total of 11. Members within the deck frame that have rotted may no longer be able to perform the function for which they were installed.
